A migraine diary for the dark room.
Log an attack in two taps, even from the Lock Screen. Shade records the air pressure, your sleep and your cycle for every attack by itself, and keeps all of it on your iPhone.
Download on the App StoreLogging is free, always. No account, no ads, no tracking.
What’s in it
Two taps
Tap the moon when an attack starts, and It’s over when it ends. You can also start it from the Lock Screen, Control Center, the Action Button or Siri, without opening the app.
Made for the dark room
During an attack the screen turns near-black and nothing moves. Three big choices: how bad it is, which medication you took, and when it ends.
The day before, recorded by itself
For every attack, Shade notes the change in air pressure, the weather, last night’s sleep and your cycle day, even when you logged it from the Lock Screen.
Today’s conditions
The air pressure with a curve from last night to tomorrow, last night’s sleep next to your usual, your cycle day and the weather.
Your month
Headache-free days first, then headache days, migraine days and the days with each kind of medication, with a calendar of every day.
Details, whenever
Symptoms, possible triggers, where it hurt and how you felt afterwards, added when you feel up to it. Several attacks a day, long attacks and symptom days all fit.

Help
How do I log an attack without opening Shade?
Add Shade to the Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, then Lock Screen, tap the area under the clock and choose Shade. In Control Center, tap Add a Control and choose Shade. On iPhone 15 Pro and later you can put Shade: Start attack on the Action Button, and you can always say “Start a migraine in Shade” to Siri. The attack is in your diary the next time you open the app.
Why does Shade ask for my location and for Apple Health?
Only to show today’s conditions and to record the day before each attack. Your approximate location goes to Apple Weather for the air pressure and the forecast. From Apple Health, Shade reads sleep and cycle tracking. It never writes to Health. You can say no to either and still log everything.
Where is my diary kept?
Only on your iPhone, in Shade’s own storage. There is no account and no server, so I never see it. Like the data of any app, it is part of your iPhone’s backups. In Settings, Export a backup saves the whole diary as one file wherever you choose.
How do I move my diary to a new iPhone?
If you move everything with an iPhone backup or Quick Start, Shade comes along. Otherwise, on the old iPhone open Settings in Shade, tap Export a backup and save the file in Files or send it to yourself. On the new iPhone tap Restore a backup and pick that file.
How do I get Pro back on a new iPhone?
Open Settings in Shade and tap Restore purchases. Pro belongs to your Apple ID, so sign in with the one you bought it with.
How do I cancel Pro?
In Shade, open Settings and tap Shade Pro, then Manage. Or open your iPhone’s Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions and Shade. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date and you won’t be charged again. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription. A lifetime purchase never renews.
Does Shade tell me why I get migraines?
No. Shade counts what is in your own diary, for example how many attacks came after a sharp fall in air pressure, next to how common such days are anyway. Those are patterns, not causes. Take them to your doctor.
How do I report a bug?
Email me with your iOS version, the Shade version (at the bottom of Settings) and what you did right before it happened. A screenshot helps a lot.
